1966 Pontiac GTO Drag Car - #93 NDY - Gateway Classic Cars - Indianapolis

For sale is a one-owner 1966 Pontiac GTO Drag Car located in our Indianapolis showroom. This "true" GTO, four speed car was originally purchased back on February 21st, 1966 by its current owner and was driven on the street until about 1970. They only put roughly 10,000 miles on the car before it was turned into a dedicated drag car. Since 1970, this car has only seen time on the drag strip and has sported a few different looks in its 48 year history. The current build on this car was professionally completed about 10 years ago. The new full roll cage and back half with ladder bars and coil over suspension was installed locally by Automotion Racecars. This 1966 Pontiac GTO Drag Car is powered by a monstrous Chevrolet 468 CID Big Block V8 engine, backed by a Powerglide 2-speed automatic transmission, running to a Ford 9" rear end with 4.86 gears with about 100 1/8 mile passes on the build. The 468 CID Big Block sports a Lunati Crankshaft, Eagle Rods, 12.5 to 1 Compression Ross Pistons, Cam Dynamics Roller Cam, MSD Billet Distributor, Electric Moroso Water Pump, Hooker Super Comp Headers, Weiand Aluminum High Rise Intake, Barry Grant Dominator Carburetor, MSD 7AL2 Ignition system, and Closed Chamber Aluminum Heads from a 1968 427CID/425HP Corvette! The transmission is a built up 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission with an 8", 5,000 stall torque converter, trans brake, and an electronically controlled ratchet shifter. The Ford 9" rear end houses Strange Spool and Axles with 4.86 gears. This car leaves hard from the line, heading straight down the track and consistently hits elapsed times in the 6.20's in an 1/8 mile run! Options on this 1966 Pontiac GTO Drag Car for sale include: 5-Point RCI Safety Harness, Racing Slicks, Aluminum Alloy Wheels, 4-Wheel Disc Brakes, Dedenbear Super Cross-Over Reaction Time Delay Box, Trans Brake, and Front Brake Line Lock. Giving you the traction you need in this beast are Goodyear Eagle Dragway Special racing slicks measuring 32.0/14.5/15 wrapped around Weld Racing Wheels. Up in the front are Firestone 4.5/26.0/15 "skinny's" also wrapped in Weld Racing Wheels. Helping slow you down at the end of the track are 4 Piston Wilwood Disc Brakes on all four corners. The exterior was adapted with weight being a concern so fiberglass doors, hood, trunk lid, and bumpers were added to trim some weight. The front clip can also be removed as one piece with the removal of a few bolts. The gorgeous red exterior paint was done at the time of restoration and shows very well, so much so that it won "Best Appearing Super Pro Door Car" at the 1997 Division 3 E.T. Finals! If you are looking for one of the best looking, turn-key drag cars out there, THIS IS IT!
