Vehicle Description
All vehicle trades considered, including classics and performance. I can assist with financing and transport as needed. What a nice looking car! This 1956 Thunderbird is the epitome of a first generation T-bird, with its P-code 312ci motor, Raven Black exterior, and wire wheel covers. It is a great running, nicely detailed car with a classic design that catches looks from everyone.
This partially restored car really is sharp. It is completely rust-free and looks terrific underneath; floor, frame, rockers, you name it! This T-Bird has been repainted its original A-code Raven Black and received new or reconditioned brightwork as well. The black top appears original and is in good condition without any rips. I absolutely love the whitewall tires and wire wheel covers, they really make this car stand out! Note the wheel covers (except for the spare) are replacements and in excellent condition. The original wire wheel covers and factory clips are included.
The drivetrain has the correct P-code 312ci 4v engine rated at 225hp for 1956. It is in perfect running condition with many new parts. It has been converted from a generator to an alternator. It also has been upgraded from the old “Teapot” style carburetor to a modern Holley 390 cfm unit. The air cleaner was replaced as well and tucks nicely under the factory hood scoop. The dual-vacuum distributor was changed to a more conventional single-vacuum setup, and the fuel pump was converted from mechanical to electric. Original parts are all included; generator, water pump, canister oil filter, carburetor, air cleaner, and more. Also the engine compartment is very nicely detailed and will make you proud to open the hood.
The remainder of the mechanical systems are in great shape. The Ford-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly. The suspension has new ball joints and new rear springs and air shocks. The power brakes have new wheel cylinders all around along with a new master cylinder. The gas tank and radiator are new, and there is a new dual exhaust. Also, being a 1956 this car has a 12V negative ground electrical system along with an original style battery.
The XA-code black and white interior is a perfect complement to the exterior. The seats, carpet, dash pad, and door panels are all in great shape. This Thunderbird has a variety of nice options including a padded dash, 4-way power seat, and auto-tuning Town & Country radio. Everything works properly including the vacuum wipers and backup lights. The horn, turn signals, headlights, dash lights, and interior lights all work as well, as do the gauges and heater / defroster. Note this car has been converted to an electric tachometer to go along with the distributor upgrade.
One other interesting note, this car has a rare DSO code of HO. This translates to the Ford Motor Company Transportation and Equipment Department rather than a conventional geographic location. So this car was likely used by a Ford executive or for demonstration purposes.
Prices for first generation Thunderbirds have been on the rise in the past year. There are many similar examples on the market for well over $50k, not to mention dual quad E-code cars beyond $100k. So not only does this car make looking good so much fun, but it’s also a great deal.
