Produced from 1967 to 1972, GM’s second generation C- and K-series trucks were given a new, more modern look to go along with their new nickname of “Action Line”, and while the previous generation had been designed primarily as work trucks, the new models featured comfort and convenience items to make driving easier and more enjoyable. Built at GM’s St. Louis assembly plant, this 1971 GMC ½-ton Wideside Shortbed pickup has undergone a frame-off restoration and is a factory big block truck. Under the hood this pickup is powered by a healthy 402ci V8 engine mated to a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission. Ordered with a number of convenience options including power steering, power brakes, and A/C, this truck has been upgraded with an Edelbrock 750CFM 4-barrel carburetor mounted on an Edelbrock Performer 2.0 intake and also features an HEI ignition, long tube headers, and chrome valve covers. Additionally, while front disc brakes were standard in 1971, the truck has been upgraded with a rear disc brake setup for greater stopping power and reliability. Originally painted two-tone white and medium blue, the truck has been repainted in medium blue and the exterior shows very well and features a rechomed front bumper and grille, rolled pan, and the rear tailgate has been smoothed. Additionally, all the trim has been shaved along with the gas filler door, and a fuel cell has been added with the filler located in the bed and a set of H4 headlights have been added in favor of stock sealed beam units. Inside the cab, the interior has redone in black vinyl, with a custom headliner that contains a Pioneer headunit that plays through Kenwood speakers, while the dash features an original factory tachometer, along with a speedometer and gauges for fuel, oil pressure, and water temperature, and a factory “comfortilt” steering column with an aftermarket billet steering wheel. Originally ordered with air conditioning, the truck has been retrofitted with a modern system from Vintage Air with controls that fit neatly in the stock location. The truck rides on a set of low profile tires mounted on staggered Ridler 695 chrome wheels that are 18” in front and 20” in the rear that give the truck the perfect stance. Overall this 1971 GMC pickup is a great runner and looker, and with its combination of power steering, four-wheel power disc brakes, modern A/C, and the big block V8 under the hood, this truck is a blast to drive.
