Corvettes dominated the top sales at Mecum’s Kansas City Auction this past weekend with four 1960s models leading the list of highest selling cars and three others breaking into the top 10.
Mecum reported sales of more than $8 million for the auction at the Kansas City Convention Center in Missouri, with 357 vehicles and 124 pieces of Road Art sold. The auction company reached $10 million during its earlier Kansas City sale in March this year.
The highest winning bid of the three-day sale went to a 1967 Corvette 427/400 hp coupe with NCRS Top Flight certification that hammered for $130,000 (Mecum results do not include buyer’s fees), followed by another 1967 Corvette, a 427/435 hp convertible, that sold for $92,500. Two 1963 split-window coupes placed third and fourth, at $85,000 and $80,000.
A 2004 Lamborghini Gallardo coupe broke into the Corvette parade to place fifth with a sale price of $78,000.
The Road Art sale of automotive memorabilia reached a 92 percent sell-through rate with total sales of $70,000.

The Kansas City Auction ends Mecum’s 2016 schedule. Next up is the company’s flagship sale in Kissimmee, Florida, that Mecum calls the world’s largest collector car auction, with as many 3,000 vehicles offered over 10 days of bidding. The auction is headlined by collections of significant historic dragstrip racing stars.
