1968 Corvette Coupe Vin #194378S421542 has 30924 miles. is a one owner car. It is an excellent example of an original survivor. The build date code is K05 (May 5th).

This was the first year of the Gen II Corvette body style. This 1968 Corvette has a very desirable engine option RPO L36 which is code for a 427CUIN 390HP. They produced 7717 1968 Corvette’s with this engine code.

We were able to retrieve the original build sheet on top of the gas tank which verifies this engine and transmission. The VIN # matches the VIN tag. Engine suffix code:

Parts such as brake calipers, rotors, master cyl, booster prop valve, drive shaft, u-joints, half shafts, trailing arms, all front suspension and components. These casting #’s, date codes have been verified as the original components.

This 1968 Corvette does run and has been driven enough to make sure the transmission shifts properly. However there are NO Brakes. The original brake caliper needs complete rebuilding to be operational. The exhaust system is in poor condition. Keeping in mind this Corvette has not been run or driving in over 20 years. Engine has a slight knock, valve covers were taken off and most lifters were oiling normally. There were 2 to 3 lifters that were not oiling. The engine noise maybe a collapsed lifter. The engine oil pressure was very good 60 lbs of pressure. The original valve covers and air cleaner have been changed along with alternator and fuel pump. However the engine and drive train have all the correct hard to find parts to make this a concourse correct car. The frame is in very good condition no major rust only lite to medium surface rust.

The exterior paint of this Corvette is in poor condition. The original color is supposed to be code 973 white. It was repainted and shows poor paint detail on exterior, door jambs, etc. It appears the left front fender has been replace, left rear ¼ panel has been repaired due to a minor accident. I could not see any structural or frame damage during our inspection. Tires are in poor condition and wheels are original. Wheel covers are in fair to good and are original. Exterior trim in good condition, bumpers, window trim and lights. Front windshield cracked and side glass scratched.

Over all the condition of this 1968 Corvette Coupe is in fair condition needing mechanical work to make it a daily driver. When you look at the important aspects of this original 30,924 mile Corvette, 427 390HP engine 4 speed 3:70 Posi traction rear end, T-Top, original factory build sheet, part number correct, date code correct components. Many hard to find parts to accomplish a concourse correct restoration. This is where the true value is reflected.
