The Fiat twin-cam engine was a remarkable and creative design by ex-Ferrari engineer Aurelio Lampredi, known for his work on the Ferrari 375 Series V-12 engines and the 2-liter units of the 1952-53 World Championship wins. Bosch fuel injection replaced the previously used Weber carburetors midway through 1980 and the cars were designated as 2000 models during the 1981 and 1982 model years.
