Tired of following the beaten path? Feeling the urge to blaze your own trail? What better vehicle to do that in than this Toyota Land Cruiser FJ43? This particular truck has led an interesting life. It started out as a vehicle for Empresas P blicas de Medellin, the state-owned public utility company in Medellin, Colombia that had very limited usage. An importer in St. Petersburg, Florida bought it then sold it to a company in Sheridan, Wyoming. Vehicles like this one, that are more than 25 years old, can be legally imported to the United States. Powered by Toyota's well-known 4.2-liter inline six-cylinder 2F engine, making 135 horsepower and 210 ft-lbs of torque mated to a four-speed manual transmission and a three-speed transfer case, taking on your favorite barely-there road or making a new one will not be a problem for this vehicle. It is left-hand drive and comes with some surprising options; power steering, power brakes, power windows, air conditioning blowing ice cold air and two tops. You will find it easy to see the view ahead, thanks to the upright seating position and lots of glass. Its six-lug wheels are shod in BF Goodrich All-Terrain tires with triple-ply sidewalls and plenty of tread. Around back, there is a tow hook and rear Toyota mud flaps. A few exterior panels, like the fuel filler door, are silver instead of gray. With its "John Deere" green exterior (Toyota paint code 681) and inviting, gray vinyl seats, it fits two people up front and up to as many as six people in the rear for short jaunts. There is also plenty of cargo space between the flip-up rear bench seats. There's an aftermarket JVC AM/FM stereo with CD player and four JBL speakers -- one behind each front seat and two more fitted to its hard top plus there's an amplifier under the driver's seat. This truck has full instrumentation - speedometer, oil pressure, fuel, temperature and battery gauges and they all work as designed. The truck arrived wearing its rarely seen Tropical hardtop, or Trop-Top, which was made in Medellin by Fivres. It is one of two Colombian companies that used to manufacture the hard tops for Land Cruisers. This example has the Toyota name on the back and each side along with a dome light on the inside. The top features three air exterior vents at its forward edge to usher air into the cabin. Inside, four interior vents route air to the occupants when the vehicle's moving. Using these vents on a mild to cool day is an alternative to using the air conditioning. The truck also came with an aftermarket soft top. Wear and tear both inside and out are consistent with a vehicle of this age and its previous use and is in excellent overall condition. Since it was originally exported outside the United States, the truck's odometer reads in kilometers, not miles. Thus, the 17,635 kilometers is understood to be only 10,980 miles on the clock. Production of the first generation Land Cruiser began in 1951 with 90 units as Toyota's version of the Jeep-like vehicle. The Land Cruiser has been produced in convertible, hardtop, station wagon, and pickup truck versions. The Land Cruiser's reliability and longevity has led to huge popularity, especially in Australia, where it is the best-selling body-on-frame, four-wheel drive vehicle. Toyota also extensively tests the Land Cruiser in the Australian outback - considered to be one of the toughest operating environments for both temperature and terrain...GET OUT AND DRIVE! Examples of this truck's competition in the United States included British Leyland's Land Rover, the Chevrolet Blazer and companion GMC Jimmy, the Ford Bronco II and the Mitsubishi Montero. Current mileage on the odometer shows 17,673.9 kilometers and the vehicle is sold as is with a mileage exempt title.
