Vehicle Description
For a quick refresher on how evolution works, look no further than the Ford Mustang GT500. Each generation gets more powerful, more capable, and more comfortable, all to keep up with the Bowties across town. This 2014 Ford Mustang GT500 is a beautifully preserved, unmodified specimen, but don't for a minute think that it's a pushover. Now with 662 horsepower on tap, it's not.Basic black is an excellent choice on your 650+ horsepower Mustang. Menacing, pure, and unadorned, it lets the horsepower do all the talking. The all-new Mustang bodywork retains the classic look and there's no question that this one has Ford Blue blood running through its veins. Wearing satin black stripes that are almost invisible unless the light hits it just right, it keeps a very low profile, so if stealth is your thing, this is your car. Obviously it's always been a fair-weather toy and not a daily driver, and with 27,100 miles on the clock, it still looks virtually new. There might be a nick here and there, and maybe a scuff on the low-hanging chin spoiler, but we're guessing that this car enjoyed being babied almost every weekend. The finish is spectacular, far better than you'd expect for a mass-produced pony car, and the Cobra's upgrades do make the all-new Mustang look longer, lower, and yes, nastier. You'd be a fool to mess with this car on the street.
Ford gave the Mustang big upgrades inside, starting with ultra-supportive leather bucket seats that are one step away from being racetrack-ready. The horizontal pleats are definitely a nod to the past but everything else is state-of-the-art in pony car performance. There's almost zero wear on any of the seating surfaces and just a few creases from someone sitting behind the wheel, but they're easy to miss. Everything else is as-new and fully operational. As the flagship Mustang, the GT500 received every feature and upgrade available, from climate control to power everything to cool ambient lighting that even lights up the pedals under the dash. The gauges are retro-style but high-tech, with the computer screen between them so you can select trip functions or seat the car up just the way you want it. There's a ripping 6-speed shifter in the center console, topped by a fat cue ball knob that's pure retro cool and the big trunk is surprisingly functional for a car whose primary mission is speed.
The 5.8 liter DOHC supercharged V8 has everything Ford knows about horsepower packed into it. In the day of 700+ horsepower Dodge Hellcats and 650 horsepower Camaros, it was the only proper response. The big supercharger sits on top, funny car style, and force-feeds the high-tech powerplant enough boost to make 662 horsepower and 631 pounds of torque. The 2013 models were upgraded with a larger intercooler, revised camshafts, and bigger injectors, so it's ready for combat. It is not modified and hasn't been raced, so no worries about a track dog or a car that's been thrashed, and it has obviously been well-maintained. The aforementioned 6-speed manual spins a carbon-fiber driveshaft and a set of 3.31 gears in the independent rear end, and that combination will push the GT500 to more than 200 MPH if you've got the space to do it. Giant Brembo disc brakes with 14-inch rotors give it plenty of stopping power for the engine's performance and the grippy 19- and 20-inch tires do their best to hook it all up.
Not many of these are built, as Ford is trying to control rampant speculation, so if you wanted one when they were new, you just had to be in the right place at the right time. Well, the time is now and the place is Streetside Classics Atlanta, because this is probably the only one we'll have for quite a while. Call now!
