Vehicle Description
Up for sale now in our Houston showroom is this ONE OWNER 1971 Buick Skylark Custom Convertible. This second-generation Skylark Custom convertible has been transformed to look like the ultimate Buick, the 455 Gran Sport. The Buick was bought new by a well-known Boston Eye Surgeon in July of 1971. He then sold it to his son, a Texas Attorney and avid car collector, who expensively converted it into a 455 Gran Sport tribute. The Buick has always been loved and meticulously maintained. It has had no accidents. The 455 Buick big block was taken from a donor car in a Pismo Beach, CA Salvage Yard. It was then rebuilt from the bare block up (using the date coded 1971 Buick big block) by legendary New England engine builder (Dave Eaton, Mid Cape Automotive Machine, Hyannis, MA) for a cost of $14K. It has all new internals and is balanced & blueprinted. This monster of a V8 has only 1,400 miles on it since the rebuild and it is paired to a 3-speed automatic transmission that has also been rebuilt and it shifts smooth and gives the car a sweet driving experience. It has a robust new radiator and transmission cooler. When the engine was rebuilt, a Moser Engineering 12 - Bolt Posi Traction rear-end and axle were added as well for a cost of $3,100. The car is shown in its stock Verdimist green (British Racing Green) paint with a tan convertible top (with a glass rear window) and tan interior. The body is in good condition, straight & true. The bumpers, grill, trim and emblems are also all in good shape. The car sits on its factory Buick 15-inch Rallye wheels wrapped in Goodyear Eagle tires with plenty of tread left on them. The $1,800 convertible works as new. The Buick was repainted once in June of 1990 in lacquer. From 10 feet away it looks great, yet, up close it has some chips and spider webs in the finish. Overall the patina looks presentable and good. The interior is nearly perfect and original to the car (very comfortable), door panels, carpet, & dash are in good condition. A small gauge cluster under the dash holds 3 gauges for engine management (oil pressure, battery voltage, & water temp). The dash is crack free. The Buick is loaded with the following options: Hood Tachometer; AC (non-working); power windows; power top; speed alert; Buick 8-track tape player; AM radio; bucket seats; functional Ram Air System; full 15" Rallye spare tire; console; and super rare Buick N-25 rear dual exhaust ports though the bumper. Everything aside from the AC works great. To see more of this car please visit http://gatewayclassiccars.com/houston/1971/buick/skylark-S995.html.
