The 1999 Jaguar is highly reliable. Jaguar was second in the J.D. Powers top ten in 2002. Lowest maintenance cost of any car I've owned in 30 years. I have performed preventative maintenance on the water pump, timing chain tensioners, hoses and gaskets. Performs as well now as the day I bought it. A joy to own and be proud of!

The XJ8 represents the highest point in Jaguar's history. I think it's one of the finest luxury sedans. The Vanden Plas, named for a famous British maker of custom automobile bodies, is the most luxurious XJ8, swathed in chrome, walnut and lamb’s wool. The 4.0-liter V8 has double overhead-cams and four valves per cylinder. It produces 290 horsepower at 6100 rpm and 290 pound-feet of torque at 4250 rpm. This is an exceptional quick sedan, going from 0 to 60 mph in 6 seconds, while averaging 26 mpg on the highway.

The Vanden Plas shares the longer wheelbase with the XJ8L, which is 117.9 inches. The standard XJ8 and the XJR ride on a 113-inch wheelbase. Visually, that wheelbase extension is reflected in the length of the rear windows.

Maintenance. This Jaguar has been exceptionally well maintained. All regular maintenance has been performed by Evans Automotive Group and Byers Jaguar in Columbus, Ohio.

The interior has been reconditioned - new headliner, new leather center console lid and seats have been reconditioned. No cracks in the burled walnut dash or door panels.

As with any car that is 17 years old there is deterioration of the rubber components – all the belts and hoses were replaced, as well as cam shaft gaskets. Other preventative maintenance included replacing the timing chain tensioners, replacing the water pump, power steering pump, A/C compressor and rebuilding the throttle body. Over $8,000 has been spent to keep this Jaguar in tip top condition.

Secondary timing chain tensioners update was installed as preventive maintenance. At the same time, the water pump, thermostat and serpentine belt were replaced. (2004 - 37,500 miles)
